II Festival Internacional de Fotografía de Castilla y León. FIFCYL – 26.04.22 – 29.05.22 PALENCIA

‘Otras miradas (Other gazes)’ a film cycle curated by Isabel Coixet

‘OTRAS MIRADAS (Other gazes)’
FILM CYCLE CURATED BY ISABEL COIXET
TEATRO DE PALENCIA
25.04 – 27.04

The films selected constitute a brief but intense journey through the eyes of 4 women who were and still are capable of narrating the world by retelling their own stories. Agnès Varda’s latest work “Visages, villages” is an ineffable look at the human face: its struggles, its shortcomings, its questions, its heartbeat. What can we say about “My Mexican Bretzel”? An unclassifiable and unique film that masterfully uses found material to demonstrate that the only limits to narrative are creativity, sensitivity and talent. “Party girl” is a cry for freedom: a unique and real portrait of a woman and a collective that is rarely master of its own destiny. Finally, the documentary “Capturing Lee Miller”, on the legendary photographer Lee Miller takes us into his life and work, from its origins and splendour to the last years when he never took up a camera again.

Presentation on 04/25 at 12pm by Isabel Coixet (12pm online & Teatro de Palencia).

MY MEXICAN BRETZEL
Nuria Giménez Lorang (2019)
25.04 – 13:00h

This fake documentary is the intimate diary of a well-to-do woman illustrated by the home movies of her husband, a rich industrialist, between the 40s and 60s of the last century. The film is also a classic melodrama in the style of Douglas Sirk or Todd Haynes, with feelings on the surface. A journey on horseback through old Europe. A romantic reverie.

VISAGES, VILLAGES
Agnès Varda & JR (2017)
25.04 – 19:00h

Agnès Varda and JR have points in common: passion and questioning of images in general and, more specifically, of the places and devices for showing, sharing and exhibiting them. Agnès chose cinema. JR chose to create outdoor photo galleries. When Agnès and JR met in 2015, they immediately wished to work together. Through chance encounters or prepared projects, they would turn to each other and drag them into this journey with JR’s photographic truck. The film also tells the story of their friendship, which grew throughout the filming, between surprises and jokes, while laughing at their differences.

PARTY GIRL
Marie Amachoukeli (2014)
26.04 – 19:00h

A woman in her sixties who likes to party makes a living by inviting men to drink in a cabaret. One day she will be pleasantly surprised when a former client asks for her hand, seeing her dream come true and the possibility of a change of life….

CAPTURING LEE MILLER
Teresa Griffiths (2020)
27.04 – 19:00h

Best known for her self-portrait in Hitler’s bath, Lee Miller’s life was as extraordinary as her photos. A Vogue model and artists’ muse, she bewitched men by her beauty, but easily held her own in the company of Man Ray and Pablo Picasso. She picked up a camera and became the only female combat photographer in Europe during WW2. Today, she is celebrated as one of the most important photographers of the 20th Century.

Access to the films is free, but by invitation. Collection of invitations at the ticket offices of the Teatro Principal de Palencia on April 23 and 24, from 12 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. and on April 25, 26 and 27 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
